Sariska became a sanctuary in the year 1958. The sanctuary came under the project Tiger in 1979 and became a national park in 1982. It is located at Kankwari fort, near Alwar, on the Delhi Jaipur Highway.
Other Attractions In & Around the Park
Kankwari Fort :- A two-hour drive from the main entrance of the park gets you to the Kankwari Fort, where the Mughal empror Aurangzeb had imprisoned his brother Dara Shikoh. Besides, the fort also affords fine views of the neighbouring villages.
Neelkanth and Pandupol Temples :- It is due to the presence of these temples inside that the sanctuary remains open round the year.
The Neelkanth Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva while Padupol stands in dedication of Lord Hanuman.
Wildlife Species of the Park

The diversified terrain of the park is covered with dry deciduous forests that harbour a wide variety of mammals, birds and reptiles.
Apart from the tigers and leopards, the sanctuary also shelters a good population of Rhesus monkeys that can be mainly spotted around Talvriksh.

Commonly spotted inmates of the park include leopard, tiger, wild dog, hyena, jackal, sambar, chital, nilgai, chausingha, wild boar, langur etc.
Bird watchers too can have a good birding experience in the forests of Sariska.
The major feathered species are bush quail, peafowl, grey partridge, sand grouse, tree pie, crested serpent eagle, woodpecker, parakeets, drongos, sunbird etc.

ACCESS

The capital city of Jaipur, which is the closest airport from here, is 107 km away. Alwar, which is 37 km from Sariska, serves as the nearest rail link.
Sariska has good links with Alwar which is further linked, by road routes, to places like Delhi and Jaipur.
Tourists can take coach and luxury buses from Delhi and Jaipur to get to Alwar. From Alwar, one can hire taxis to reach Sariska.

Airport :- Nearest Airport: Jaipur 180 km. Several flights from Delhi , Mumbai and other parts of India.

Roadways :- There are direct buses that ply between Delhi and Jaipur also go via Alwar and Sariska

Points And Tips
You must carry mosquito repellent creams, coils, and mats.
A first-aid kit with antiseptic lotion, Band-Aid, cotton swabs, sunscreen SPF +15, tissue, sun-glasses, a backpack,
sturdy trekking shoes, binoculars, camera with zoom lens, cash, and snacks to fight between-meal hunger pangs.
In case you are planning to carry a video camera, it will cost you Rs 200 to take it into the sanctuary.
